PRODUCTIVE CONFLICT MANAGEMENTWe teach conflict management skills in a workshop format, intervene for our clients in situations where conflict has arisen, and also coach clients through conflicts. We believe that people can develop skills for recognizing and responding to conflict and that conflicts can be managed and changed. When we intervene for clients or coach them, we do what the situation calls for. Sometimes, that includes the facilitation of productive conversations, gathering different perspectives, reframing situations in more productive ways, or suggesting alternative behaviors. Participants in our workshop learn to recognize and manage the factors that influence the outcome of a conflict, identify their primary and secondary styles of conflict management, and use specific behaviors to increase their flexibility in a conflict. Participants are introduced to basic concepts, given the opportunity to apply them in a simulated situation, and then are asked to apply them to real workplace situations of their own. Participants will learn:
Instructional methods include:Profiles of each participant's primary and secondary conflict styles, a variety of small group exercises, including design of a management strategy for use in a real conflict situation Suggested audience size:15-20 Length:2 or 3 days Comments:"This Conflict Management workshop provided much needed skills for new mid-level supervisors to deal with day-to-day conflicts among staff. I observed more conflicts solved at the local level and less brought to my level. I highly recommend this workshop for organizations that are bogged down due to staff conflict." Cathy Heath
