Coaching Services

I have coached CEOs, Executive Directors and high-level managers for over a decade. The work has come to me without either seeking it or advertising. However, it now takes enough of my professional time that I feel like I should say something about it.

As I look back over my coaching successes and failures, it is evident to me that I'm most successful with, and prefer, a particular type of client. My personality seems to fit best with leaders who have the following characteristics:

  • Strength: I like working with strong personalities, both male and female. I was raised in a family of strong men and enjoy interacting with males who have firm opinions. Most of my personal friends are strong women. So, strength, not gender, is an essential fit for my skills.

  • In trouble or embattled: No one who accomplishes anything goes through an entire career without periods of conflict. Unfortunately, at any given time anyone can run into someone who is unreasonable, unstable, tricky or just out to get them. Also, all people have blind spots and parts of their personality they've neglected. Sometimes, those deficiencies in otherwise high-functioning personalities cause problems. I like helping people get out of trouble in ways that increase the productivity of their workplace and preserve the dignity of as many people as possible.

  • Honest: It's almost impossible for me to successfully coach people who aren't honest with themselves and others. (That may be true for all coaches.)

  • Need help in thinking strategically and rationally: Usually, by the time a coach is hired to help somebody in trouble, the situation has disintegrated into a tangled mess. Untangling those knots often requires strategic thinking and rational responses. I seem to be able to help people cut through the chaos, regain their emotional equilibrium and straighten out their thinking.
